Nature of request
Marquader and Treurnho state that three months ago they sent a bill to the King's council seeking remedy and damages for their imprisonment by the kingdom of Navarre and the taking of their merchandise worth 3516 gold florins, and they were kept so harshly and so long that they spent 1200 gold francs, and this was done to them at the request of merchants of Navarre who say that their merchandises worth 30,000 francs were taken by the King's men and officers. The council responded that they should be informed of the truth in this matter, namely, the circumstances in which the petitioners were taken and if the merchants of Navarre's claims were true. The council was provided with the process made in Navarre in this matter but is still awaiting information on the damage done to the merchants of Navarre, on which the King could be informed by Scrope, Dorgraite and Wathfild who went to Sandwich to buy the said goods from Stonden, wherefore they request that they may now have their remedy and damages.
