Nature of request
The prelates and nobles of Agen request:1) restoration of any judges removed from the lord of Agen's court, since they have always been accustomed to hear and examine judgments and decisions made by the lord or his seneschal as members of his court;2) that no other bailiffs of the King take any lands of theirs or their subjects into the King's hand;3) that their goods not be taken except in cases of notorious serious crimes, and any people or goods which have been taken should be returned;4) that a limitation of jurisdiction be made between the King and the petitioners, and that they not be disturbed within that limitation, and that they may hold and possess it as peaceably as in the time of Raymond, late Count of Toulouse and Alphonse, late Count of Poitiers;5) that the King not receive recognisances of fees held by them, that they not pledge men, horses, equipment or household goods, and that the King not receive men subject to quête in those places or avowries which are under castellans and their jurisdiction. And if the King wishes to enquire into crimes or other actions according to the customs and uses of Agen there should be an inquisition by men chosen by the seneschal and court of Agen;6) that henceforth for homage nothing should be received;7) that the King swears to them by the same ancient custom as the lord of Agen;8) that the first-born noble of the father's inheritance succeed when his father dies intestate but that all his other sons should be freely provided for with all necessaries and daughters with dowers, but if the father died testate, it should be as the testator ordained in his will.1)
