Nature of request
Estefeld and Laloe request that:1) English keepers be sent to keep the islands until peace is reached between the English and the French;2) the inquisition taken before Bourne and other justices of the King's father, in which the people of Jersey and Guernsey were each assigned damages of £20,000 sterling during the Norman war, be reviewed and judged;3) that justices be assigned to enquire into all transgressions etc. from when the said lords had the keeping of the islands, and to enquire into Spigurnel's errors of process according to the form of commissions made to Stonore, Bourne and others;4) the renewal of the King's father's writ of protection to the islanders dated in August in his 20th year [1326], to Estefeld's dated September in his 19th year [1325], and to le Moyne.

[On face] 1) It seems to the council that the assigned jurats should examine the process and form of gifts made for the current keeper of the islands and certify the King and council of perils and remedies.3) The council agrees that certain men be assigned to enquire into the things contained in this petition and to cause the inquisitions to be returned so that the King can do justice.4) The protections will be renewed.[On dorse] 1) Item, Laloe, son of John de Laloe who was banished from the island for a term on pain of £10 tournois, requests remission of this fine and restitution of his goods.2) A writ was sought for the community founded on the ancient right of the islands according to which no islander can be tried at law outside the islands.
