Description

Prior and convent of Bromholm.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The prior and convent of Bromholm, who are of the King's patronage and subject to no religious house except insofar as they are of the profession, rule and order of the abbot of Cluny, request a writ ordering the priors of Lewes and Castle Acre to cease from their distraint of the petitioners, made at the abbot of Cluny's order on pain of excommunication of their monks, to pay 30s. to an alien named Heymes to support a plea which he is suing at the Roman curia and elsewhere to enter the priory of Thetford which he claims of the abbot's gift, since they have never before aided other houses in tallages, contributions for the support of pleas or anything else.
Nature of endorsement
Because the priory is of the King's patronage a writ of Chancery should be sent to the priors of Lewes and Castle Acre prohibiting them from claiming anything etc. without consulting the King.
