Petitioners
Chancellor and scholars of the University of Cambridge.
Nature of request
The chancellor and scholars of Cambridge request that whereas the King has granted them [jurisdiction ... and power] to punish malefactors and disturbers of his peace, that the Friars Minor, who have come and broken down their gates and beaten the scholars found there and who refuse to stand to [justice on this] saying that they are exempt from the jurisdiction, may be put to answer for their offences ... as are other masters, clerks and scholars living in the same university.1)
Nature of endorsement
They are to try them in accordance with the custom of the university if they are able; if not, the complainants are to have a writ of Chancery against the offenders.2) Subsequently the King orders that there should be an enquiry into this by Higham and the sheriff.
