Nature of request
The chancellor, master and clerks of the university of Cambridge request that whereas they have arranged and provided a college of poor scholars to be maintained in the university by the King's aid and the alms of others, that the King will be the founder of this house and that it will be in his protection and endowed through acquisitions in alms of lands or rents to the value of £40, notwithstanding the statute about the alienation of lands and tenements in mortmain, from which the scholars residing there can be supported, and that these scholars may be chosen, received, reside and governed by the chancellor and the liberty of the university like other scholars studying there.1)

The King wishes to be informed by the sheriff whether this is to his profit or damage.2) To the lord chancellor.
