Nature of request
The chancellor, masters and clerks of the university request remedy and the liberty which the King granted to his university of Oxford, because the scholars often make contracts, covenants and exchanges among themselves and between themselves and laymen concerning books, horses, cloth and other goods, on which they plead or are impleaded before the chancellor according to the usages and privileges of the university, but sometimes the party impleaded brings the King's prohibition so that the plaintiff cannot sue his claim or have judgment.
