Nature of request
The Prior and convent of Merton, who with their men are distrained for tallage in Buckinghamshire and elsewhere, request that they be quit of all kinds of tallage as they have been since the making of the charters granted by the King's ancestors, which state that they are to be as free as any house of religion in England and free of every secular demand and all kinds of annoyances and secular customs excepting only jurisdiction over life and members.
Nature of endorsement
The treasurer and barons of the Exchequer should be ordered by writ of Chancery to do justice, after having seen the charter etc.
