Besy and Fitz Ralph and others that are of the ancient demesne of the crown in Grendon request that they be granted a writ before the sheriff of Northampton . . . that they are able to plead in the king's demesne and descend to the country in . . . to enquire of the truth according to what the king's court has ordained as they have been ousted from their land by the Pauntons and others and their goods have been carried away and they have sued in the king's court but still have not been able to come to the country.1)

Note
The petition is dated to? 1290 as a very similar petition from the same petitioners was enrolled on the parliament roll for the Michaelmas parliament in 1290 (Rot. Parl., vol. I, p.60a (no.176)). However, the petition refers back to events in 41 Hen. III, so it is possible that the petition predates that found enrolled on the parliament roll by some years.
