Description
Petitioners
Proctors of the subjects of your beloved kinsman, the King of England.
Addressees
King [of France].
Nature of request
List of eleven articles submitted to the King of France by the proctors of the subjects of the King of England concerning the preservation and fulfilment of peaces and truces between the two realms and the establishment of a lasting peace, asking the King of France to appoint prelates and nobles to oversee the keeping of the peace, as the King of England has, and that a day and place might be appointed to continue the process. It also stresses that wars have come about because of disagreements between the King's subjects, rather than between the Kings, and asks that negotiations might deal with wrongs done to subjects, especially merchants, as well as the rights of kings.
Nature of endorsement
[None]

Note
Datable to the reign of Edward III before the outbreak of the Hundred Years' War. Mention of treaties between the King of England's grandfather and the King of France's uncle in 1303 dates this petition to the reign of Philip VI of France (1328-1350). The petition is, therefore, likely to date to the period 1330-1337.
