Description
Petitioners
Pierre de Greilli (Greilly), vicomte of Benauge and Castillon; Assalide de Greilli (Grelly), wife of Pierre de Greilly and daughter of Pierre de Bordeaux, and brother of Pierre de Bordeaux.
Name(s)
de Greilli (Greilly), vicomte of Benauge and Castillon; de Greilli (Grelly), Pierre; Assalide
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
[Petition in 5 parts:]1) Greilli states that his grandfather, John de Greilli, left certain things to him and certain things to his sister, on condition that they swore to obey the ordinances of his testament in all things, and that if they broke did so, they would lose their entire inheritance except 10s And now his sister and her husband, Jordan de Lille, are attempting to exchange some lands, which would put lands previously held of the King under the control of the King of France, and be to the disadvantage of the King and to the disinheritance of Pierre. He asks that the Seneschal of Gascony might be ordered that this should not take place.2) Assalide de Greilli requests that constable of Bordeaux be commanded that if he finds that her ancestors were accustomed to have their wine free of custom at the castle of Bordeaux then he is allow her to enjoy the same right, as the recent constables have wrongly taken customs.3) Greilli requests that the seneschal of Gascony be commanded that, if he finds that those of the house of Eyran are within his jurisdiction for high and base justice and high and low jurisdiction, he should deliver this justice to him. They pertain to him in right of his wife as they are of the jurisdiction of Isle St George.4) Greilli requests that high justice in Sainte Croix de Mont be delivered to him as it was granted to his father by Edward the king's father but was sequestrated by John de Havering.5) Greilli requests in the name of his wife that the constable of Bordeaux be commanded that if he find by letters of the king's father and by account that certain sums for wages and purveyance are due to the Captal de Buch and Pierre de Bordeaux then he pay Greilli or assign him the bailiwicks of Entre Deux Mars and Puynormand, or the bailiwick of Ste Foy: as the bishop of Norwich and others ordered that this should be done, but the matter was delayed by the removal of the constable from office.
Nature of endorsement
[On face:][To first petition] Let it be ordered to the seneschal of Gascony that the exchange which the petition mentions is not to take place.[To petitions 2-5] With regard to all the petitions below, the King will send in a writ some of his faithful to the Duchy of Aquitaine, who will have the power to do full justice on these things.[On dorse, none].
