Date
[c. 1328]
Description
Petitioners
People of Jersey.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The people request that the isles of Jersey and Guernsey be taken into the king's protection as they are threatened by Normandy in time of war, and there is no refuge between England and Gascony and the Isles.
Nature of endorsement
[None].

Guernsey, [Channel Islands]
Normandy, [France]
Gascony, [France].
People mentioned

Note
The petition dates to c. 1328 as it is clearly following the replacement of Otto de Grandisson as warden of the Isles, and he was replaced in March 1327, and the government seems to have been particularly concerned with the defense of the Isles at this time (CPR 1327-30, p.63; CCR 1327-30, p.318).
