Nature of request
Writ of Edward II to Grandison ordering him to prevent his bailiffs and ministers from troubling the people of the islands, and to permit them to freely and quietly enjoy their rights and customs as they did in the time of the king's predecessors.
Nature of endorsement
None of the laws and customs have been changed by Grandison in Jersey, and the laws that relate to Guernsey are so confused and are not written down so that it is impossible to say whether changes have been made there on account of which the petition is sent to . . . And for the king Fressingfield and his associates, justices lately in eyre found that the islanders abused their laws and customs on account of which the justices adjourned the matter before the king where it still pends. It is certified that neither Grandison or his ministers intermeddled with the justices.
