The community of the county of Dorset request that they can erect a gaol at their own cost in the town of Dorchester because the gaol serving their county is in Somerton in Somerset thirty leagues out of their county and the men of their county fail to indict felons and conceal murders, robberies and other felonies because of the distance they are required to transport prisoners and the expenses of travel for gaol deliveries and the danger of escapes.
Nature of endorsement
They should have a writ of Chancery that they should erect a gaol in Dorchester at the cost of the whole county.
