Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/271/13517
Date
[1399-1405]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas Rounde (Round, Ronde, Rande) of Moulton.
Name(s)
Rounde (Round, Ronde, Rande), Thomas
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Rounde requests writs of liberate and allocate sufficient so that he can be paid the annuity that was granted to him by Richard II to be taken of the fee farm of Northampton, and which the king has confirmed.
Nature of endorsement
[On face:]This petition was granted by the king and sent to the chancellor for execution.[On dorse, none].
Places mentioned
Moulton, [Lincolnshire]
Northampton, [Northamptonshire].
People mentioned
Richard II, King of England.
Note
The original grant was made on 7 April 1399 (CPR 1396-9, p.528). It is clear that the petition is of the reign of Henry IV, as reference is made to King Richard as the present king's immediate predecessor. However, the nature of the petition suggests that the petition must be early in the reign, as it concerns problems with the payment of an annuity originally granted by Richard II and subsequently confirmed by Henry IV so that a date range of 1399-1405 has been adopted, though this can probably be narrowed to the first year or so of Henry's reign.
