Nature of request
The citizens and merchants request that the king will grant them reprisal of those of Ghent for the citizens of London and their goods that they seized concerning a debt that they claim the citizens and merchants owe them, and for their inadequate answers to the king's letters. The commonalty of London were bound to pay a certain sum to the burgesses of Ghent for King Henry III but the burgesses had assignment by agreement made between the count and countess of Flanders and Edward I, but have seized merchants of London and their goods despite this.
Nature of endorsement
A writ of chancery is ordered to be sent to the echevins and consuls of Ghent to enquire into the arrest of the goods and to do remedy.
