SC 8/270/13479
Date
[1326-1327]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas le Blount; Juliane le Blount, wife of Thomas le Blount and widow of John de Hastings.
Name(s)
Blount; Blount, Thomas; Juliane
Addressees
King, Queen and the lord the Duke.
Nature of request
The Blounts requests that the dower from the Hastings part of the inheritance of the Earl of Pembroke be delivered to them, as the other co-heirs have now sued for delivery of their part, and they have been long delayed by Despenser, who had the keeping of Hastings's lands during the minority of his heir.1)
Nature of endorsement
Let there be assigned . . .Juliane.2) [Largely illegible].
Places mentioned

Ireland.
People mentioned
John de Hastingges (Hastings)
Aymer de Valence, Earl of Pembroke
[Joan Comyn], Countess of Atholl
[David of Strathbogie], Earl of Atholl
Elizabeth Comyn
Hugh le Despenser the son.
Note
Presumably dates to shortly after the fall of Despenser in October 1326, but the address to the king, queen and duke would indicate a date before the deposition of Edward II on 20 January 1327 (the address presumably being to Edward II, Queen Isabella, and Prince Edward, Duke of Aquitaine). Also, the petitioner refers to the death of Joan, Countess of Atholl (June/July 1326), but makes no reference to the Earl's death on 28 December 1326, suggesting a date between the two or very shortly thereafter. Entries on the close rolls from 15, 18 and 26 February 1327 all deal with the delivery of part of the dower (CCR 1327-30, pp.12-13, 103), and are almost certainly the direct response to this petition, albeit in the following reign.
