[The petition is split up into several paragraphs, but is, in reality, only one request. The petition is missing a portion from the foot.]The petitioners state that the ordinances made with regard to the realm of France in the time of the king's grandfather are no longer being kept, to the peril and harm of the realm of England, and to its laws and franchises, and ask that the ancient processes, defences and remedies might be taken up again and continued until better are ordained, and that Murimuth, Isleworth, Ufford and Radeswell might counsel and advise the king in writing on this issue. They also ask that the chancellor might be ordered to make commissions and other letters necessary for this, as were made in the time of the king's father and grandfather, and especially when Langton was chancellor, with such amendments as might be ordained by the council.1)
Nature of endorsement
Of the aforesaid grace by the proctors of masters and mariners of the ships of the aforesaid ports with the aim of showing an honourable and necessary reason for the keeping of the oath made for the keeping of an ordinance and accord made between the said masters and marines of England and of other lands annexed to the crown of England on the one part, and the masters and mariners of Flanders and the lordship of the count of Flanders on the other, to last forever.2) Concerning Bayonne.3) They should be put in a little bag with the box.
