Nature of request
The petitioners ask that they might be excused from not attending on a day assigned to settle certain disputes between the subjects of the king and the count of Flanders, at the octave of All Saints next, and that another day might be assigned instead, as because of the state of war existing on the seas between the king's people and those of the king of France they do not dare to send messengers, and because the Count, who should also send messengers with them, is currently in France.
