The people request that they be respited the demands of those assigned to raise troops in those parts for the Scottish war as they have the power to distrain for arms and sustenance for those troops, but the petitioners are wasted by the enemies of the king who were lately in those parts and have nothing on which to live.

The petition dates to 1323 as the abbey was granted advowsons and appropriations in relief of the same wasting by the king's enemies on 2 March 1323 and it is clear that this petition is in the aftermath of the revolt of Thomas of Lancaster (CPR 1321-4, p.261).
