King.
Nature of request
[Seven points concerning matters between Scotland and England:]1) [Badly damaged, this appears to concern treacheries committed and alliances entered into by the Scots to destroy the English, possibly given as a reason why the Scots nobles will not observe peace treaties].2) That these treacheries and alliances might be clearly shown to the pope by the proctors of your said subjects, as the treacheries and alliances against your grandfather were shown to popes Boniface and Clement, in order to justify the wars in Scotland and Gascony and absolve the King's subjects, especially the clergy, from sin.3) That the crown of England has justly and lawfully acquired all rights which John de Balliol had in the crown of Scotland, and state that these rights cannot be severed from the crown of England; and this cannot be put in doubt.4) The King's grandfather granted various lands, castles, vills and rents in Scotland to earls, barons and others of his realm for their service, to hold in fee of him and his heirs alone, warranting them against all others. They ask that the King uphold this warranty.5) That the forfeiture of Robert de Bruce towards the King's grandfather was made by due process and cannot be put in doubt.6) That the lands, cities, castles and vills occupied by Bruce and his companions in the time of the King's father were occupied during time of truce or during time of war wrongly begun [by Bruce and his allies].7) That with regard to the agreements concerning the satisfaction for immobile goods occupied by one side and the other and for damages by one side and the other, Bruce and his allies have no right in these lands, but that satisfaction for occupied goods and for damages should be made to the King of England and his subjects, according to the laws of England.

Note
From internal references, this document must date from the reign of Edward III, but before the death of Robert Bruce in 1329. It would seem likely to have been presented in the period preceding the Treaty of Northampton (1328), and to contain points to be remembered by those negotiating that treaty.
