[Badly damaged petition in 4 parts:]1) [Much of this is illegible] The consuls of Montreal complain of attacks from the people of the Count of Armagnac and Fezensac, the Vicomte of Brulhois, Ferensaguelli, his brother, Hugh de Lagraulet, Odo de Monte Alto, lord of Lagraulet and Beriata de Jaulmo, who have entered the royal jurisdiction at Montreal, killed and mortally wounded some people and carried off others, imprisoning them until they extorted large sums from them, carried off livestock and goods, raped and abducted women and committed other atrocities. And they complain that the King's officials have failed to do justice on this. They request a remedy.2) The individuals of the university and bailiwick of the town request that it be granted that they can carry arms in the duchy for the duration of the war.3) [Partly illegible] They request confirmation of their liberties.4) [Largely illegible] They ask that they might construct a public building or house in a suitable place to . . ..
Nature of endorsement
[On face:]1) Let it be ordered to the seneschal that upon the premises he should provide the best remedies for these things that he can, with the advice of the council in those parts, for the advantage of the said town and the king, prosecuting the aforesaid malefactors with diligence and duly punishing them.2) Let the seneschal be ordered that concerning the contents of the petition he give them that grace that he properly can.3) They are to show them.4) Let it be ordered to the seneschal . . . should construct . . . of this sort, and on the contents of the petition . . . of the town it seems to him is to be done.[On dorse, none].
