Description
Petitioners
Bernard de Greissac (Creissac) of Libourne, on behalf of the mayor, jurats and commonalty of Libourne.
Name(s)
de Greissac (Creissac), Bernard
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
[Petition in 6 parts:]1) They request letters patent to the effect that until the coming of a lieutenant to view the state of the country the peaces, safe-conducts and armistices agreed by the mayor of the town are to be upheld by all the King's lieges, officers, subjects and allies in the country, as they have incurred many losses in maintaining their loyalty to the king.2) They have previously asked for a certain sum of sterling to pay in ten years from the tithes of wine from the rebellious high country, for the repair of their town; and this request was not answered. They again request this, by the King's letters patent, pointing out that he has given money from the said tithes to people who have less deserved it.3) Item, they ask that the offices currently occupied by Guiaut Prevost might not be granted after his death contrary to the liberties of the town, as people have already deceitfully obtained gifts from the King. They ask that the goods and appurtenances of the town might be excepted from such gifts, and that they might have the King's letters patent on this.4) Item, they state that the King wrote to them that he was sending them some money that they have not received, although others who have less deserved it have been paid; and he then told them that the lieutenant would pay them. They ask him to consider this and inform them of his will.5) Item they request that it be ordained how they are to be paid for the victuals requested by Farendon for the salvation of the castle of Fronsac.6) Item they request that they be excepted from the customs and impositions that the king granted to those of the city of Bordeaux; and they request letters to the Mayor, jurats and officers of Bordeaux to this effect.
