Nature of request
The tenants requests remedy as they held a mill which became ruinous and void because of their impoverishment and the war, and subsequently rebuilt it after obtaining a licence from Havering, and paying the king £8 by him, but are now amerced by the sheriff, and the justice refuses to act without a warrant from Havering which they cannot find.1)
Nature of endorsement
Gornocus Tuder prosecutes (?) these four . . .2) The justice is to enquire of this matter and certify the king.3) The justice informs that there was a mill there from time out of memory, and that it is not to the king's loss if it is granted to them. He also states that they paid Havering the £8.4) Afterwards the king and council agreed that the justice should let the tenants have quittance if they were distrained for that reason.
