Description
Petitioners
Idonia de Sellyngge (Selling), widow of John de Selling.
Name(s)
de Sellyngge (Selling), Idonia
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Sellyngge requests that a writ is ordained to the sheriff to examine the matter of her dower, as she has had nothing from her husband's lands in Sheldwich and Selling which are now in the king's hand by the forfeiture of Badlesmere, and she requests that she is granted a suitable remedy.
Nature of endorsement
The king assigns the sheriff to enquire of the matter in the presence of the keeper, and the king is to be certified in Chancery.
Places mentioned
Kent
Sheldwich, Kent
Selling, Kent
Badlesmere, Kent.
People mentioned
John de Sellyngge, (Selling), late husband of the petitioner
Bartholomew de Badelesmere (Badlesmere).
Note
The petition dates to 1322 as another petition by the same petitioner on the same matter refers to an earlier request made at the parliament held at York upon which an inquisition was ordered, which is presumably a reference to this petition and response (SC 8/74/3658). In addition, both petitions concern lands forfeited by Bartholomew de Badlesmere, which again identifies this as a petition of 1322.
