The abbot and monks request some relief by way of alms so that they can live and maintain divine service in their house. Their lands have been ravaged by the Scots, and although they were maintained by the late king, since the siege of Berwick they have been further despoiled.

The petition is dated to 1333-1336 in accordance with the suggested dating of Constance Fraser, as the petition refers to the siege of Berwick and Scottish raids in the aftermath of the English recapture of the town (Northumberland Petitions, pp.201-2 (no.180)). 'Colmesynche' may be the island monastery of Inchcolm.
