Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/267/13306
Date
[? 1315-? 1340]
Description
Petitioners
Adam Coppandale of Beverley.
Name(s)
Coppandale, Adam
Addressees
King.
Places mentioned
Beverley, [East Riding of Yorkshire]
Canterbury, [Kent].
Nature of request
[The petition is badly damaged and the full sense is not recoverable]. Coppandale requests a writ to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer . . . concerning . . . in the Exchequer for plate changed at Canterbury . . .
Nature of endorsement
Because he is not protected by the ordinance that men are not able to carry plate in England at will, let it be ordered to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer by writ containing the ordinance and effect of the petition, that if he was impeached for the reason that he carried plate to the exchanges of Canterbury and exported it from there and not at all for another reason, then he should not be impeached and should be quit.
Note
The petition is speculatively dated to? 1315-? 1340 on the basis of the hand. Other references to an individual of the same name in connection with the Beverley riots of 1381 would seem likely to be a separate, though possibly related, individual.
