Reference
SC 8/266/13257
Date
[? c. 1279]
Description
Petitioners
Maud Tyneldene, widow of Robert de Tyneldene.
Name(s)
Tyneldene, Maud
Addressees
King or council.
Nature of request
[The sense of the petition is difficult to recover because of the gall staining and general damage to the right-hand side of the petition].Tyneldene complains of the trespasses made against her by Croulond that saw her imprisoned and her disseised of her free tenement and of her goods.
Nature of endorsement
She should go to Chancery and obtain justice for herself by the common law.
Places mentioned
Kent
Codsheath hundred, Kent
Maidenhead, [Kent].
People mentioned
Piers de Croulond.
Note
The petition is dated to? c. 1279 in accordance with the guard note dating which is dated on the basis of the reference to a vacancy in the see of Canterbury. While the hand may possibly appear to be later, no protracted vacancy seems to occur again until the later fourteenth century, which is certainly far too late.
