Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/266/13256
Date
[c. 1315-c. 1340]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Carleton (Carlton).
Name(s)
de Carleton (Carlton), Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Thomas de Carleton requests that, in accordance with the statute of debtors, the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer allow him to pay the fine of 100 marks made against him for trespass in instalments of 40s per year, since he has less than 100s per year in lands and a wife and children to support.
Nature of endorsement
Not a parliamentary petition.
Note
Dated to c. 1315-c. 1340 on the basis of the hand. It is possible that this petition can be more precisely dated should the statute referred to be identified, but the two statutes of this period referring to debts date to 11 and 13 Edw. I and neither of these seem to make any reference to anything remotely similar to the petitioner's claim (Statutes of the Realm, Vol. I, pp.53, 98-100).
