Date
[? 1299]
Description
Petitioners
William de la Hoge.
Name(s)
de la Hoge, William
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
La Hoge requests remedy because he was a pledge for Cumberwell who committed a simple trespass against the prior of Wenlock who purchased a writ to end all matters between himself and Cumberwell, which matter was plainly discussed between the parties, yet the prior had la Hoge imprisoned and his beasts impounded to his damage of over £100, and the prior has also levied £20 from him.1)
Nature of endorsement
Since the complaint concerns the prior especially, nothing can be done at present.2) The prior is not here so nothing can be done at present.
Places mentioned
Wenlock (Much Wenlock), [Shropshire].
People mentioned
Robert de Combrewell (Cumberwell)
[Henry de Bonvillars], prior of Wenlock.
Note
Dated on the guard to? 1299, with reference to SC 8/83/4148 and SC 8/104/5152, two related petitions from Cumberwell dated c. 1297-9 and c. 1298 respectively. The reference to the Prior of Wenlock suggests that the petition probably relates to the Channel Islands eyre of 1299-1300 (see Crook, Records of the General Eyre, pp.191-2).
