Nature of request
Bagepuz requests that whereas le Conue, who had married a woman of Normandy, came by night to the isle of Guernsey, contrary to the King's prohibition since the Normans captured the isle of Alderney, and was captured by those who were guarding the sea and attainted for a spy before the warden and people of the region, and Bagepuz placed the spy in the keeping of Engles, but because he was so valued the Normans freed him within eleven days, for which the petitioner and Engles were put in exigent, that he may have a writ to good men of the Channel Islands, not of the bailiffs' affinity, to enquire into this matter.

The bailiffs of Guernsey should be ordered to leave Bagepuz's charge and plea until the next assizes, if he finds sufficient surety to be there.

Dated on the guard to? 1299, with reference to an entry on the Assize Roll for that year, JUST 1/1157, m 5d, which refers to the outlawry of the petitioner. The petition appears to relate to the Channel Islands eyre of 1299-1300 (see Crook, Records of the General Eyre, pp.191-2).
