Nature of request
The people of Guernsey request that whereas at their request the King at his parliament preceding his coming from Calais forbade their bailiffs to be justices in eyre, and the said bailiffs have continued to be their justices in eyre and their inquisitors, that the King perfect the said grant.
Nature of endorsement
Before the King; whereas by his command etc. Otto grants that from henceforth those who were bailiffs after the last assizes shall not be justices.

Dated on the guard to c. 1300 since the endorsement names people who were appointed in May 1299 and with reference to CPR 1292-1301, p. 433, a 1299 oyer and terminer re lands in the Channel Islands, CPR 1301-7, p. 97, a 1302 oyer and terminer re bailiffs of Guernsey and elsewhere, and to Channel Island Petitions, p.45. The petition probably relates to the Channel Islands eyre of 1299-1300 (see Crook, Records of the General Eyre, pp.191-2).
