Nature of request
A request that Cheyne, to whom the King granted the alien priory of Newent for £87 6s 8d yearly, can have the said sum during the time he is on the King's council in full satisfaction of his wages.
Nature of endorsement
On 14 December in the king's fourth year [1402], present in the council were the Chancellor, the Treasurer, the Earl of Northumberland, the Earl of Westmorland, the Keeper of the Privy Seal and J. Scarle, who agreed that letters patent be made in the terms of this petition, and that mention be made in the letters that he should have the said wages from the feast of Michaelmas last.

The endorsement is dated 14 December 1402, and letters were issued on that date (CPR 1401-5, p.183). Henry IV granted the manor of Newent and temporalities of Newent priory to Cheyne in 1399 (CPR 1399-1401, p.200).
