Seint Martin requests full execution of the response to his petition presented in full parliament, as follows:'Seint Martin requests of the King and council that whereas the King's father was bound to the men of Gascony for their wages in his war of Gascony in £320, and Brittany, on the present King's order, assigned the petitioner to be attorney for the men of Gascony in the bailiwick of Nancras in Saintonge until the said sum was paid, and then the King, forgetting the assignment to Seint Martin, gave the said bailiwick to the Lady of Cassal, that he can hold to farm the bailiwick of Marennes or of Camparian in the provostship of Saintes for a year until the sum is paid.''The names of those owed and the amount of the debts should be expressly stated and the attorney should show the bonds which he has received for the debts, and then justice should be done to him by the chancellor and treasurer.'1)
Nature of endorsement
Gascon petitions at Lincoln in the quinzaine of St Hilary 9 [Edward II][1316].2) As regards the assignment of bailiwicks contained in the petition, the King assigned to the Pope the rents from the bailiwicks of the said Duchy, which assignments cannot be revoked or contravened.3) As regards the rest, the constable of Bordeaux was ordered that, after he had made full payment of the assignments to the Pope, he should satisfy him as justice demands.
