Date
[c. 1330]
Description
Petitioners
Not specified.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Although it is known that Queen Philippa does not have her right, nevertheless in order to have clearer evidence of her estate the following points should be shown to the King and council:1) by charter the lands of Glamorgan, which belonged to la Despenser, and the castle and honour of Pontefract were assigned to the Queen at the value of £3000, but are only worth £150 yearly;2) because the lands which she received had no livestock or other profit and cannot support the expenses of her household, that it please the King and council to ordain a sum of money with which she can pay the poor of the region for the victuals and other necessaries taken for her household and for clothes for Christmas and keep her household until she can profit from the lands to be assigned to her;3) that the King and council consider the charges of Lady Eleanor and others staying in the Queen's company at her expense and that her household be put in such order that she can pay their expenses from her lands.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] 1) Certain men will be assigned, as will please the King, to extend the lands and extents to £3000.2) This petition should be shown to the treasurer and barons and they should show it to the King to know his will.3) It seems, if it pleases the King, that those who order the King's household should be called to help with the ordering of the Queen's household and that she should have a certain sum of money for the expenses of Lady Eleanor.
