Description
Petitioners
Abbot and convent of Blancheland.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The Abbot and convent of Blancheland request remedy, and that they be restored to their possession of the advowson of the church of St Lawrencee on Jersey. They state that King John, the King's grandfather, granted them the advowson, which they held peaceably and presented to the church until the war between the Kings of England and France when the lands and tenements of religious aliens were seised into the King's hand. Note
Dated on the guard to c. 1299 and later, since the petition refers to the abbot of Blancheland appearing before the prior of Wenlock and Leyset, who were appointed to a commission of oyer and terminer concerning lands in the Channel Islands in August 1299 (CPR 1292-1301, p.433). The petition appears to relate to the Channel Islands eyre of 1299-1300 (see Crook, Records of the General Eyre, pp.191-2).
