Nature of request
Clipston requests remedy against Denny and Piers who came to his manor of Bartlow on the Saturday after the Exultation of the Holy Cross in the twenty-first year of the King's reign [1397] with 20 armed men, entered his chamber, frightening his wife, searched his bed and other rooms in the manor and stole 5 marks and other small items to the value of 7 marks, and that men be assigned by commission to enquire, hear and determine all trespasses and felonies done to him by Denny, Piers and the others on that day or at any time since.
Nature of endorsement
The bill was found to be true by inquisition etc. except that the goods were estimated at 100s. and no more, but by another inquisition they were estimated at only 60s.
