Nature of request
Edward III orders le Scrope and his fellow justices to do justice and provide remedy to Robert son of Robert le Fitz Payn and Ella, his wife, who showed by petition that Edward II, at the prosecution of Robert son of William Burnel suggesting that the manor of Wisley should remain to him by virtue of a fine levied in Edward I's court before Willoughby and his fellow justices of the King's Bench in his eleventh year [1282-3] between John, Eve and Beatrice Brewes and Burnell, plaintiffs, and Robert, bishop of Bath and Wells, defendant, by which fine Robert and Ella were removed from the manor, and the sheriff of Surrey was ordered to warn them to be before the King on the quinzaine of St Martin in the nineteenth year of his reign [1325] to declare why Burnell should not have seisin of the manor, which the sheriff claimed to have done. On the said day Robert and Ella did not appear and so it was decided that Burnell should have seisin of the manor, but Robert and Ella claimed that they had not been warned, wherefore they petitioned the King to have remedy.
