Description
Petitioners
Alice de Lacy, Countess of Lincoln.
Name(s)
de Lacy, Countess of Lincoln, Alice
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
[This petition is badly faded and much is now illegible.]Alice de Lacy, Countess of Lincoln, makes two separate requests for remedy regarding outstanding issues from Newcastle-under-Lyme and Upleadon. She ought to have received these by the king's writ to his keepers, but they have not been forthcoming.
Nature of endorsement
Concerning the first, because the money was paid to the Exchequer, before the King.Concerning the second, sue a writ to the keeper that he should deliver the issues or certify the reason.
Places mentioned
Lincoln, [Lincolnshire]
Newcastle-under-Lyme, [Staffordshire]
Upleaden, Herefordshire.
People mentioned
Roger Belers
[Thomas of Lancaster], Earl of Lancaster
William de Otterhinton
Roger Carles
William de Waleis, receiver.
Note
Dated on the guard to c. 1322-3, since reference is made in the petition to events of 12 July in the sixteenth year of Edward [II] (1322). It evidently deals with the aftermath of the forfeiture of the petitioners husband, Thomas of Lancaster, and thus presumably dates to some point during the latter years of Edward II's reign.
