Description
Petitioners
John Ive, Abbot of Faversham, and the convent of Faversham.
Name(s)
Ive, John
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Abbot of Faversham
Nature of request
Ive, abbot of Faversham and his convent recount that in the time of Edward II there was a plea moved and debate between the convent and Orfreiser, who took Badlesmere into his council and rewarded him with a release for life of his rents in Badlesmere, Sheldwich and Selling, which rents have been in arrears since the lands came into the King's hand following the death and forfeiture of Badlesmere, and for the last four years have been in the hand of the guardians of Badlesmere's heir. The abbot and convent request that the King order the barons of the Exchequer that if it was found by inquisitions taken before the officers of his progenitors that the rents were due to the abbot by right of his church after the death of Badlesmere then they ought to have them as they did before, and the guardians should respond for their time.
Nature of endorsement
Badlesmere's muniments should be examined to determine if the release was made for the term of his life or in fee.
