Nature of request
The petitioners request remedy against Denny, who, by virtue of a commission directed to him and others to arrest Clipston and Wolde in Cambridgeshire and Essex, came to Ashdon with force and arms and threatened to cut off the petitioners' heads. They also request a commission of oyer and terminer into all trespasses and felonies committed by Denny since the Exaltation of the Cross last.1)
Nature of endorsement
On 14 October in the twenty-first year [1397] a day was granted to Denny, Clipston, Wolde and others pursuing these six attached bills to be before the council on the quindene of St Martin next and to find sufficient surety to keep the day, on which day Denny and the persons named in the bills came before the council and requested that the recognisances in Chancery be annulled and voided because of their appearance. And it was agreed that Denny should state his case in writing and bring it before the council on Monday 2 December next, and the opposing parties requested a copy so that they could reply, which was granted. Whereupon the parties were instructed to be before the council on the third week after Easter next to have and receive what the council will award them.2) This bill is not true.
