Description

King and council.
Occupation
Prior of Butley
Nature of request
The prior of Butley recounts that Dedham presented Fraunceys to the church of Dedham in the diocese of London, which church the prior and his convent have held to their own use for over twenty years, and the prior, not knowing the presentment to be false, approved of Dedham's presentee, but the bishop refused to admit him. Whereupon Fraunceys appealed to the Court of Rome, where he has been for a long time, and now that his process against the bishop has been refused, he has sued the prior in the same court for the patronage and possession of the said church. And because a writ of prohibition to the party is worthless while he remains at the Court of Rome and has nothing in England, the prior requests that the King grant his letters to the Pope that those things which concern his rights and laws should be pleaded in England and that the Pope should not allow them to be pleaded before him.

It should go to the King.
