Nature of request
The prior of St Mary, Huntingdon requests justice because Brunton impeded the assize of Toseland so that no verdict could be passed as to whether the prior was the true patron of the church of Southoe, to which the prior had presented Hemingford in the tenth year of Edward I [1281-2], nor could the prior have justice unless he agreed to pay 100s yearly to Chertsey. He requests restitution since the obligation was made against his will, together with the £30 which Chertsey has so far received from him and the £40 which Chertsey caused him to spend in the said plea by his delay, with damages and expenses.1)
