Description
Petitioners
Gaucem Pagan (Payn), on behalf of himself and his companions, merchants of Gascony.
Name(s)
Pagan (Payn), Gaucem
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
merchants of Gascony
Nature of request
Gaucem Pagan states that he and his companions, merchants of Gascony, state that money due to them for a loan, to be paid from an assignment on the tenth from the clergy in England, has not been paid since the King to the tenth into his hand. They have petitioned parliament in York and London, and had writs to John de Drokenisford to pay them, but the Bishop of Chester has said that they cannot be paid. They request some specific ordinance on this matter, for the King's honour and their profit, so that the Bishop of Chester and John de Drokenisford cannot delay further after this parliament.
Nature of endorsement
He is to account with John de Drokenisford, and he is to give him satisfaction for the money for the tenth when it has been paid to him etc. And he is to have a writ of Chancery of sicut alias to the said John de Drokenisford on this.

People mentioned
[Henry de Lacy], Earl of Lincoln

John de Drokenisford (Droxford)

[Walter Langton], Bishop of Chester (Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield)
Bournucino (Barentyn) Gauter of Lucca, attorney of the petitioners.
Note
The writ quoted is dated 31 March, 33 Edward I (1305), and is therefore the result of a petition presented to the Lent parliament of 1305 - which would agree with the mention of an earlier petition to the York parliament (of 1303). This petition would seem likely to have been presented to the following parliament, that of September 1305.
