Description

Friends and kin of Alexander Neville, Archbishop of York.
Addressees
King and council in parliament.
Nature of request
The petitioners state that in the present parliament, in the chapter-house of Westminster, the enemies of God, the King and the Archbishop had three bills issued, of which two were fixed to the pillar of the chapter house and the third to the door of St Paul's Cathedral. Copies of these bills, which defame the King, his council, and other lords of the land, as well as the Archbishop, in a way never hitherto seen in any parliament, are attached to this petition. They ask that such a remedy might be ordained in the present parliament for them against those who are guilty of such slander, and against their abettors, as will protect the reputations of other lords from similar attack.
