Nature of request
Robert Baudewyn, heir of Philip Baudewyn, priest of Jersey, states that Roger Baudewyn is withholding 5 virgates of land, of Philip's escheat, from him in the parish of St John in Jersey, through deception on Roger's part and malice on Philip's, in order to disinherit Robert in favour of Philip's children. Robert has raised a complaint about this from the moment he knew about it, and now asks that the parties on both sides might be called and their arguments heard, and that justice and a remedy might be given to them according to the law and custom of those parts. He promises to say what his necessary and amend his petition if necessary, and requests a loyal inquisition of 12 good men of the parish into the truth of what he says.
