Nature of request
William Fouquire states that in [? 1430], because he could not afford to support his wife and children, he came to an agreement with two merchants of England, John and Stephen Nicole, that three of his children, two boys and a girl, would go with them to serve them: the boys, Geoffrey and Gervaise, for the space of seven years, of which they were to be kept in school for two years, in compensation for which two years they would have the service of his daughter Jaquelot; and at the end of their periods of service the children would be returned to Rouen at the Nicoles' costs. After his wife's death, William came to look for the children, and found that the children had not been to school and that John Nicole had died, and that Stephen and John's wife wished to sell the children and would not give him them unless he paid 18 nobles for them. He requests justice, and that the children might be returned to him.
