Nature of request
John de Grantham and Roger de Ely, Sheriffs of London make two requests:1) They state that they have been appointed to receive wheat and other victuals from Manent Fraunceys for the war in Scotland, and that they now have certain quantities of corn and flour, which they list, ready in London; but they have no ship in which to transport it. They ask that some particular mariners in whom the King trusts might be assigned to receive and transport these victuals, and that someone might also be assigned to oversee the quantity of flour to be put in each barrel; and they also ask that they might be assigned a sum of money from the sixth in London or the tenth in Middlesex in order to pay for it.2) They ask that certain corn-dealers, namely Richard de Hakeneye, Roger Husebonde, Alan Crille, John de Stibenhuth, Robert le Huthereue, and William de Dorkingge, or others as it pleases the King, might be appointed to oversee the corn received, to check that it is of suitable quality.
