SC 8/261/13029
Date
[1343-1376]
Description
Petitioners
English burgesses in the English borough towns of North Wales.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The English burgesses in the English borough towns of North Wales state that Edward I, shortly after the conquest of Wales, established borough towns in North Wales, namely Caernarfon, Conway, Beaumaris, Criccieth, Harlech, Y Bala, Rhuddlan, and Flint, with English burgesses to live in them, and granted various liberties and franchises to each town by his charter. These charters were confirmed by Edward II, by the present King, and by the Prince, but the Prince's ministers for various reasons no longer allow the delivery by their fellow-burgesses of burgesses indicted of things supposed to have been done within the bounds contained in the charters, contrary to the tenors of these charters. They request writs to the Prince and the Justices of North Wales and of Chester, or their lieutenants, to allow these burgesses to be delivered by their fellow-burgesses, and to allow all the franchises and liberties in the charters.

It is to be done.
