Description

Griffin (Gruffudd) de la Pole.
Name(s)

Nature of request
Griffin de la Pole states that in the time of Edward II John de Cheorleton ejected him by force from his lands of Deuddwr and Mechain Is Coed in Powys, held of the King in chief, and of which he had been seised for thirty years and more. He complained to Edward II and his council, and was given deliverance of his lands; but John has forcibly disseised him of them again, on the morrow of Martinmas last. He requests a remedy, that he might have delivery of his lands with the issues in the meantime and his damages.
Nature of endorsement
Philip de Say, Robert de Shirebourne and Robert de Horle, or two of them, are to be appointed by commission to inquire in the March, in the presence of John if he wishes to be present, into the last expulsion, and the cause, and how, and into other necessary articles; and when the inquisition has been held, they are to inform the King of everything they have done, so that he can do justice and reason.
